Swaddles

It’s been a wee while since we were in the newborn phase but for some reason I feel like starting my “mom blogging” here. Maybe because it stands out in my mind as one of those topics that was unexpectedly and frustratingly complex.

Little Jump Muslin Swaddle Blankets

I’ll cut to the chase and tell you that in the end, after trying many different brands of swaddles and spending way too much money, Gordie liked the plain old original no frills swaddle blankets best. I think he especially liked these because I could tuck his arms in with his elbows bent and hands up by his chin. He did not like his arms down by his sides. We tried a couple brands of swaddle blankets and my favorite ended up being the Little Jump Muslin swaddle blankets. They were the perfect size (47”x47”) and the best soft bamboo cotton muslin material.

The other swaddles we tried were the Love to Dream Swaddle UP, Nested Bean Zen Swaddle, Halo Sleepsack Swaddle, and Happiest Baby SweetPea Swaddle.

Love to Dream Swaddle Up

We did like the Swaddle Up in the way beginning. He seemed to like having his arms up instead of down.

Nested Bean Zen Swaddle

We also used the Nested Bean Zen swaddle quite a bit in the beginning. He did seem to like this swaddle but he grew out of it quickly!

Halo Sleepsack Swaddle

Gordie had a phase of about 2 weeks where he liked the Halo but my instincts told me he felt a bit hot or uncomfortable in it. I did like the ease of the Halo though - it’s like a sleep sack with a velcro swaddle part, super easy to don, and it didn’t come apart like the blanket often would.

Happiest Baby SweetPea Swaddle

He did not like the Happiest Baby SweetPea swaddle. A lot of parents swear by it but Gordie wasn’t having any of it.

So in the end, simple won out this time. Once I got the hang of wrapping him the way he liked, we never looked back. And before we knew it he was out of swaddles and onto sleep sacks! Let me know in the comments what swaddle products and techniques worked for you!
